“Making a Place for Equity” panel at Michigan House @ SXSW
Mar 11, 2017 , 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
On Saturday, March 11, NEI director Pam Lewis will join other leaders from around Michigan for a special panel discussion on the subject of equitable economic development at the South by Southwest conference in Austin, Texas. The panel will be held at Michigan House, a travelling collaboration spearheaded by Creative Many Michigan that brings together the state’s most forward-looking companies, organizations and artists to tell their stories under one roof. Michigan House provides an interactive platform to show entrepreneurs, thought leaders and talent from around the country what Michigan is all about.
Lewis will be joined by Rosalynn Bliss, mayor of Grand Rapids; April Boyle, executive director of BUILD Institute; and James Chapman of Rock Ventures for a panel discussion titled “Making a Place for Equity.” The panelists will address how what lessons can be learned from Michigan cities for others looking to build an inclusive future that encourages opportunity for all. The session will explore some of the strategies Michigan’s communities employ to improve outcomes for segments of the population that traditional economic development programs disproportionately overlook.
The panel, which is part of the SXSW Social Impact track, will take place Saturday, March 11, 5-6 p.m. at Michigan House, which will be located at 700 Trinity, Austin, TX 78701.
