The Michigan Economic Development Corp. on Monday will launch its second Shifting Code cohort to train information technology workers in advanced systems.
The Shifting Code initiative, in partnership with the Workforce Intelligence Network and the Detroit Workforce Development Department and local tech companies, will train 32 people in advanced Javascript at Wayne County Community College District’s School of Continuing Education Training Center in Detroit.
“While there has long been a need to develop a more robust IT talent pipeline in Southeast Michigan, Shifting Code takes a significantly different approach to addressing this need,” MEDC President and CEO Michael Finney said in a release. “Having a public workforce development system that is responsive to the needs of industry is part of our commitment to reinvent government and create more and better jobs in Michigan.”
Employer partners include Compuware Corp., Quicken Loans Inc., GalaxE Solutions Inc. and Marketing Associates LLC.
Shifting Code was created by the MEDC in January to provide short-term advanced training for IT workers. The first cohort provided training to 26 participants in Drupal, an open-source content management system.
The MEDC is currently securing another cohort in Oakland County.
It plans to conduct 10 cohorts this year across the state.
