President Obama is hoping smart gun technology can be used to make guns safer, but “smart gun technology” has become fighting words for gun control opponents.
Omer Kiyani believes he has a device that can secure guns using that technology, but also avoid the fury that has marked efforts to make guns harder to buy and easier to track.
While smart guns require a weapon to recognize the owner’s fingerprint, Kiyani’s Identilock is a device that attaches to a gun and would be released when it recognizes the owner’s fingerprint.
“My device is an add-on, an accessory that can be purchased separately,” Kiyani told CNNMoney.
